Message: Seems like the data got corrupted at some point during the download. The MD5 checksum of the 1.1.5 installer is 8f6a21a34553eef27ccfdbd4b26c4724, if you know how to compare with yours, try it. Else, I suggest you try to reinstall with administrator privileges (I doubt this will help) or simply redownload it.

<description>Topic: Test Subject's relationship with Testers

Message: The only thing I can think of is that either one of two things:1. The test subjects are either prisoners in some parallel-universe-tyrannical-society thing and getting through the test chambers is their ticket to freedom. The scientists don't want anyone to get hurt but since it is run with government money, the government is going to be able to tell them what to do. So instead of the gov't paying for a cell and food for the prisoner, they have them conduct tests for the portal experiments, not to mention they'll potentially have someone who can out-think life and death situations. Potential for some kind of special soldier, perhaps? HL2: EP3 tie in possibly? We know the GMan is involved so it may be his little scheme. I know this isn't an official Valve game but it could put ideas into their head. they've always been mod friendly.2. The test subjects are employees/volunteers who are expecting a big pay day if they get through alive. They are never told before hand how dangerous it's going to be except at the beginning of each chamber where there's a hint of the danger posted on the wall before starting. I'd imagine there wouldn't be many volunteers if they knew what they were really in for./if I had to bet, I'd go for option 1

<description>Topic: Tough but awesome.

Message: I'll post here instead of starting another thread.I've had the mod for a little over a year now. When I first got it I was real excited to have more Portal to play. I loved the fact that it was a functional facility. Well thought out :)Then I hit Chamber 9. No matter how many times I tried to make that small jump I seemed to move sideways or I just wasn't able to go through the portals enough to get enough momentum to get where I needed to go. Frustration set in and I put it down for a while, all the while wishing evil things upon the creators of the mod. I know the mod was for a more advanced player but I'm no slouch when it comes to this sort of stuff so I just figured I'd get to it again someday.Fast forward to a few weeks ago when the whole Portal 2 shenanigans started. I must have played the original Portal 3 or 4 times in a row and actually got some achievements on the challenges I never got. Having fun and a bit more confident, I went back to my old saved game in Prelude. It must have taken 2 hours or so to figure out what I was doing wrong before in Chamber 9. I don't like using walk throughs unless I'm at the point of printing a copy of the game on CD, walking to the creator's house and burning it in effigy on their front lawn. I was trying to time the electric field so when I had enough momentum going up and down, I'd place a portal on the floor over the wall, spring up to where the field was, and run to the exit. I made it to that electrified field exactly once, hitting the field while it was active. So I broke down, watched the walk through and saw you only needed to get on top of the wall, place a portal, and leisurely spring to the ledge. Since that point, I've actually been able to enjoy the game immensely. Even Chamber 19 wasn't as frustrating as 9 (even though it still is a pain in the rump). Despite repeated urges to castrate the creators, I can now see this is a wonderful mod that needed to be difficult to be truly enjoyed. I don't know how you came up with some of the level designs but most were brilliant (except 9 lol). I just want to say good job and well done! Congrats on all the attention it's gotten and I hope to see more in the future!

Yup. 26 Radios to find. 23 of them are within the 19 Test Chambers. Only a few of them are difficult to find if you are observant. Keep the volume up and listen for Still Alive being played.&#160; Nothing happens if you find their transmission points except that you get to hear the Morse Code files that play over the radios, which is kind of creepy. The released info on Portal 2 is completely unexpected. I'm not going to spoil it since you can get it at Wikipedia if nothing else, but needless to say it is different.

The changed ending is actually pretty minor. The ending all but confirms Chell's participation in the next story, though. On the other hand, Portal 2 has now been confirmed, likely for December of this year. Will have a single player campaign AND a multiplayer co-op campaign that will feature a different story and two new playable characters.

Message: I was thinking the same thing last night when I was playing the new Portal! Not quite the same thing, but the similarities were pretty striking. I'm happy that it appears we will see more of Chell in either Portal 2 or Half-Life 2.3.Was a bit afraid she'd be forgotten. I know that someone had Valve had stated Chell's character had actually been developed prior to Portal for something else and when Portal came along she fit very well with the Aperture Science angle, so I'm hoping for a good story there coming up. :)YAY for more Portal stuff!!!

<description>Topic: Fix the FAQ, please, it's confusing.

Message: In order to play Portal: Prelude you need to have Steam&#160; installed on your system, of course. You also need to be the owner of Portal and probably nothing else. Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike Source, Day of Defeat Source or the Source SDK Base (which can be downloaded for free in the tools&#160; tab of Steam) may be of some use, but we don't think so. In fact, I'm not really sure you need anything else than Portal, so I advise you to try and see, because there's no way I'm going to uninstall every Source game of my computer until it doesn't work anymore. Steam will notify you if something goes wrong... and if something goes wrong, start by installing the Source SDK Base.
. I have tested this mod back in the days when I owned NOTHING on Steam but Portal (which was my first Steam game), everything went well, and I finished it back then too.
